Outlander is currently on a mid-season break. The second half of season 7 is set to premiere the in 2024 (hopefully, early 2024). As we suffer through this Droughtlander, there have been some updates on what fans can expect from the new episodes.
Back in June at the ATX TV Festival, before the SAG-AFTRA strike, Outlander star Caitriona Balfe (Claire Fraser) spoke about some tough moments coming up in the second half of Outlander season 7. She has warned us that things will get pretty grim. Best start preparing now.

“I’m going to be a bit vague because it’s stuff I can’t really, really talk about but I think it’s episode 11,” said Balfe. (The first half of season 7 ended with Episode 8.) “There’s a scene, there’s a sequence of scenes that were really, really challenging. I think my [low point] was trying to figure out how we were going do it and it was really tough. It was also a tough time personally because it was not that long after my dad had passed and it was a very hard thing to sort of get myself into the headspace for and there was a big struggle about how we were going to do it. There was lots of notes going back and forth.”
Balfe went on to say that it may have been the first time in her life that she was unsure of how to do a scene. However, she said that once you can figure out how to get through it, it “always feels like a really good thing.”
As an Outlander fan and an avid TV lover, I couldn’t agree with that statement more. That level of commitment and dedication comes out in the most challenging scenes, and it is obvious to the viewer how much the performer has to give up emotionally to make the moment come to life.
Balfe has a special way of doing that on Outlander time and time again. She truly is an underrated actress, and it is always a shame when the award circuit overlooks her. I just don’t get it!
And Balfe’s talents don’t end when the cameras stop rolling. She also became an executive producer on Outlander alongside costar Sam Heughan (Jamie Fraser) and also directed some episodes for Season 7.
Bafle is also set to direct at some point during the eighth and final season, which doesn’t have a release date yet. Now that the writers strike is over (and the actors strike hopefully coming to a close soon), hopefully the show will soon get back to work telling some of the most epic, dramatic, and talented stories we have ever witnessed.
