Castle Star Looks Back On Reuniting With Nathan Fillion On The Rookie
Castle star Tamala Jones looks back on what it was like to reunite with her former co-star Nathan Fillion on The Rookie for two episodes.
Castle star Tamala Jones recalls what it was like to reunite with her former co-star, Nathan Fillion, while making guest appearances on The Rookie. In Castle, Jones played medical examiner Dr. Lanie Parish, a major character that helps to investigate murders throughout the show. After portraying the character through season 8, she went onto reunite with Fillion in two episodes of his ongoing police drama.
Speaking with Screen Rant on the red carpet for Ordinary Angels, Jones revealed what it was like to guest star in The Rookie after Castle and reunite with Fillion. She explained how different being on set was compared to their previous venture together, but praised her short time on the series. Check out what Jones had to say below:
That was so great. But I was a little shocked because when Nathan was Castle, he was full of pranks. I didn’t get pranked at all on The Rookie; I was waiting on it, but it didn’t happen. So I think he’s matured since Castle, but it was so much fun reuniting with him and the producer, writer, Lexi [Alexi Hawley], she’s amazing. So when they asked me to come back, I was like, “Heck yeah, I’m there.”
Tamala Jones Isn’t The Only Castle Guest Star On The Rookie
Jones appeared as Yvonne Thorsen, Aaron’s mother, in season 4, episode 11, “End Game,” and season 4, episode 16, “Real Crime.” She was part of the young rookie’s storyline involving the murder of Patrick Hayes, for which her son was a suspect prior to his exoneration. Given that Aaron was critically injured in The Rookie season 5, it’s possible Jones could make another appearance following her on-screen son’s injury.
However, Jones is not the only familiar face from Castle that has made a guest appearance on the Fillion-led show. The most notable are Jon Huertas, who played Detective Javi Esposito, and Seamus Dever, who was Detective Kevin Ryan; both appeared in different roles on The Rookie. Following eight seasons of their previous show, Huertas showed up on The Rookie as a Homeland Security agent, while Dever appeared as a drug buyer.
While the show has already had plenty of guest stars from Fillion’s previous work, The Rookie season 6 could see new and returning faces in its guest star lineup. Even though she wasn’t around in season 5, Jones’ enthusiasm indicates she could return as Yvonne if the story allowed for it. With the series still going strong, there’s no telling how many other surprise faces will appear in its future episodes.
