Kim Burgess is about to experience new heights of trauma if a recent image shared on Instagram of series star Marina Squerciati is a good indicator. Production for the thirteenth season of the police procedural Chicago P.D. is ongoing. The series, produced by Dick Wolf, is gearing up for another dark and action-packed season, and viewers are getting a glimpse of this ahead of the fall return. The official Instagram account for Wolf’s production company, Wolf Entertainment, shared an image of Squerciati in the makeup chair as the show’s team put on some blood splatter on, teasing a rough story for the character. It’s unclear from the image what this arc entails, but it will be interesting to see.
Chicago P.D. Season 13 finds Burgess dealing with the developments in her life, both personally and professionally. She recently got married and nearly lost her job. The latter will have her reassessing some things about how she operates in the unit. “I definitely think Burgess [will approach the job differently],” showrunner Gwen Sigan said after the season finale. She added:
“For her, she had a lot to do with all of this, but she was really just trying to have someone’s back. She was just trying to have her teammate’s back, and so to see the consequences of it, I think it will have an effect on how she moves forward.”
‘Chicago P.D.’ Undergoes a Shakeup Once Again
The show returns once again with an open spot in the Intelligence Unit. However, it could be filled by the recent cast member, Arienne Mandi. The L-Word: Generation Q star plays Naomi Kerr, a former soldier and military contractor. She is described as fearless and keeps her cards close to the vest. Kerr could be Kiana Cook’s replacement following Toya Turner‘s departure from the show after a single season.
As for what the show will deal with in Season 13, it’s unclear yet. Some arcs from the preceding season will carry over, and new ones will be introduced. However, the most pressing question is what happens to the in the aftermath of Reid’s (Shawn Hatosy) campaign. “I love that we have a lot of options,” showrunner Sigan said when asked if they plan to pivot from the internal affairs storyline or double down on it. Viewers will have to see what happens when new episodes return.
