Claire’s Mom & Jamie’s Dad’s Dynamic In Outlander Prequel Explained By Star

Outlander: Blood of My Blood star Hermione Corfield explains the dynamic between her character and Brian Fraser (Jamie Roy), and what to expect from them later this season. Corfield plays Julia Moriston, who is the mother of Outlander‘s Claire Beauchamp (Caitríona Balfe), while Brian is the father of Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan).

Julia and Claire’s father, Henry Beauchamp (Jeremy Irvine), are from the time of World War I, but as their daughter will years later, they end up traveling back in time to Scotland via the heart of Craigh na Dun. By the end of Outlander: Blood of My Blood episode 2, Julia is serving as a maid at Brian’s home, Castle Leathers.

During an interview with ScreenRant for Outlander: Blood of My Blood, Corfield was asked about Julia’s dynamic with Brian and what her character thinks of him. Corfield explains that Julia and Brian are “wary of each other,” but that they form a “wonderful bond” and “sibling dynamic” later in the season. Check out her comments below:

Yes, at the beginning, they’re a little wary of each other, when she first arrives. She’s obviously quite anonymous, because she’s part of the newest of Lovat’s maid servants, and as her circumstances change a little bit, they’re wary of each other. And then, they have this wonderful bond a little later into the first season, and it feels quite like a sibling dynamic, I would say. They have each other’s backs, and I think they recognize in each other that they’re yearning for people that they can’t be with at that point. I think that it’s so lovely that they recognize that in each other, and try and help as much as they can.

What This Means For Outlander: Blood Of My Blood

Instead of just exploring the respective relationships of Claire and Jamie’s parents, Blood of My Blood is making the stories of the two couples intersect in significant ways. Julia is “quite anonymous” to Brian for now, but that will not remain the status quo as season 1 progresses.

Genuine trust will form between Julia and Brian as they recognize they are in similar predicaments and that they can rely on each other. Corfield’s “sibling dynamic” remark emphasizes that their relationship will not turn romantic, but will be strictly platonic as they work together and try to reunite with their respective loved ones.

In some ways, Julia and Brian are setting the stage for the relationship that will blossom between their children across Outlander‘s seasons. Of course, they do not know the ramifications that will come from helping one another, but their partnership will have an impact far beyond their current situation.

Our Take On Hermione Corfield’s Comments

Romance largely defines what Outlander is best known for, but the show also excels at developing the friendships that form between key characters. While romance continues to be essential for Blood of My Blood‘s cast of characters, it is wonderful to see that friendship is an important piece of the prequel as well.

Julia and Brian’s relationship will be one of the most fascinating dynamics to watch evolve as Outlander: Blood of My Blood season 1 continues. It will also add new context to Claire and Jamie’s relationship given the bond that their parents shared.
