Cobra Kai Creator Reveals Season 6 Episode Count & Exciting Update on Runtime
Cobra Kai creator Hayden Schlossberg confirms the final season’s episode count while sharing big news about its runtime.
Cobra Kai co-creator Hayden Schlossberg shared new details about the highly-anticipated sixth and final season of the Karate Kid sequel series.
Posted on X, Schlossberg replied to a fan’s question regarding Cobra Kai Season 6’s official episode count. Just like previous seasons, he confirmed that the final chapter would also consist of ten episodes. However, Schlossberg promised that the total running time of the entire final season would be the “longest” one yet. According to returning cast member Courtney Henggeler, Cobra Kai Season 6 will resume its production sometime in January. Lead star Xolo Maridueña previously confirmed they were able to shoot the first episode before the Hollywood strikes temporarily shut down production.
Cobra Kai hails from co-creators Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz, and Schlossberg. After two seasons on YouTube Premium, the coming-of-age martial arts dramedy was officially picked up by Netflix for its third season in 2020. The series is led by returning Karate Kid vets Ralph Macchio and William Zabka as they reprise their respective iconic roles as Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence. Joining them are Maridueña as Miguel, Tanner Buchanan as Robby, Mary Mouser as Sam, Peyton List as Tory, Jacob Bertrand as Hawk, and more.
The final season will also feature Karate Kid villains Martin Kove as John Kreese, Thomas Ian Griffith as Terry Silver, and Yuji Okumoto as Chozen Toguchi. The latter has been reintroduced as a valuable ally to Daniel LaRusso in Season 5, following their intense battle in 1986’s The Karate Kid Part II. Further details about the final season’s plot are still being kept under wraps, but Daniel, Johnny, and Chozen are expected to team up together to help take down Terry Silver’s Cobra Kai.
The Future of Cobra Kai
In a previous interview, Hurwitz opened up about the future of the Cobra Kai franchise, teasing that the original series might be followed by potential spinoffs. “Hopefully, the characters are rich enough that if there is an opportunity in the future to pick up with them again one day, they’ll still be characters people are hoping to spend time with,” Hurwitz said. As for the Karate Kid film series, Sony Pictures announced last Sept. 2022 that a brand-new Karate Kid movie will be arriving in 2024, with Macchio’s Daniel LaRusso and Jackie Chan’s Mr. Han from the 2010 adaptation set to return.
The untitled Karate Kid movie will center around a brand-new character, played by a Chinese actor who will get cast through a global casting call. At the moment, the studio has not yet made any announcement regarding the current progress of the project’s casting search. A recent report suggests that the latest installment’s story will reportedly be about “a teen from China [who] finds strength and direction via [martial] arts and a tough but wise mentor.”
