‘Cobra Kai’ Fans, the Show’s Creator Just Dropped a Major Season 6 Update
Cobra Kai fans, we’re a step closer to heading back to the karate dojo.
The hit Netflix dramedy started working on their sixth and final season in late April, right before the screenwriters section of Writer’s Guild of America (WGA) went on strike in May to fight for a fair contract with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP). Two months later in July, SAG-AFTRA went on strike to negotiate their own deal with the AMPTP, causing the show to stay paused for an indeterminate amount of time. But now it looks like things might be back in motion.
Shortly after the WGA and AMPTP struck a tentative deal on September 24 (that has since been ratified), the show’s co-creator Jon Hurwitz went on X (formerly known as Twitter) to voice how excited he was to start working on Cobra Kai once again.
“Hell to the yeah!” he wrote shortly after the news dropped. “Thank you to the WGA negotiating committee! Ready to get back into the dojo! #WGA #CobraKai.”

Needless to say, fans couldn’t contain their own elation regarding this update. “This is amazing! Cobra Kai Season 6 is back! Can’t wait assuming it’s out next year hopefully early next year,” one person wrote on X. ” IT’S COBRA KAI SEASON 🤝🥋,” another celebrated. “YES SENSEI,” a different viewer cheered.
While the news is naturally exciting, Josh did note that production isn’t out of the woods yet. When a fan asked about whether the actors could return to the project amid their ongoing strike, he replied back that they’re still waiting to see how SAG-AFTRA and the AMPTP will fare.
“Can’t get back on set yet, but can get back to writing the moment the guild says the word,” he answered on X. “Rooting for a quick resolution for SAG!”
Amazing!!! 🫶🥳 But can you guys get back to the dojo just yet??? What about the actors? 😯
