Coronation Street legend hints at ITV soap exit as she teases role away from cobbles
Coronation Street viewers could soon end up bidding farewell to an iconic character who first set foot in Weatherfield 12 years ago.
Coronation Street actress Lisa George, who portrays Beth Tinker in the ITV soap, is reportedly keen to explore new opportunities away from the cobbles.
Lisa’s played Beth for more than a decade but she is yet to hear if she’s got another contract past the start of next year.
If the star were to leave Coronation Street, she would “love” to venture into war dramas or something similar to the BBC midwifery drama Call The Midwife.
“I’m really interested in the war stuff because my grandad talked about the war all the time,” the 50-year-old star said.
“So I’d love to do a 1940s drama. Or something set in the 60s would be amazing.”
Continuing her chat with The Daily Star, she added: “I would love to do Call The Midwife. And I watched Ten Pound Poms and loved it. A role in something like that would be amazing.
“I’d love to do something like that. I like my vintage dramas and stuff like that, maybe a 1940s drama, more like war stuff.”
She told the publication she’s “waiting to hear” if her Coronation Street contract will be renewed.
Beth arrived on the scene as a former girlfriend of longtime resident Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson).
However, she will always be associated with her relationship with the hapless Kirk Sutherland (Andrew Whyment).
Their relationship is perhaps one of the most enduring partnerships in the Weatherfield serial drama.
However, Beth is no angel as viewers saw her nasty side when she hit Hope Stape (Isabella Flanagan)
Despite her cruel actions, she also proved her worth when she was involved in a storyline which saw the death of her niece Sinead (Katie McGlynn).
Will Beth remain a staple of the ITV serial drama or will she have to turn her back on the cobbles soon?
