Not every romance is always needed.
Blue Bloods is a show that has it all. The police procedural has given us a lot to obsess about, and we are not just talking about the brave cops hunting down criminals.
There is a huge emphasis on the family life of the Reagans, their relationships and support in every episode of every season. But there’s also a lot about friendships and romantic connections in the show.
It’s a common thing for fans to ship their favorite characters and dream about them being romantically involved. And that hasn’t gone away with Danny Reagan and his longtime partner Baez.
They have played close friends and best work partners since the beginning of the show. But only now, at the end of season 13, did fans finally get a hint that they might actually end up together.
“Somebody posted on Twitter an image of them dancing and said that they need to be doing this in ‘their’ kitchen, Donnie [Danny actor] replied to that post ”deal”. Am I just a nosy hopeless romantic or is anyone else here with me?” Redditor Heidi_Klum88 said.
While many fans are so eager to see a happy couple in the new season, the majority of fans feel that this story is being shoved down the audience’s throat.
The sentiment in the fandom is that getting Danny and Baez together would be nothing short of “recycled writing” which would be “pandering” to OG fans of the show. No matter how much one enjoyed the show from the beginning (and no matter how much of a shipper one can be), some things are just too obvious and cliche to actually include them in the show.
Some fans would even prefer the show to never come back if it really plans to make the Baez ship set sail.
“I’d rather it not come back from the strike delays and/or simply end outright than to have Danny and Baez become a couple,”Redditor Navitach said.
The fans are more happy to have them as partners, and there’s absolutely no need to break their professional bond. However, the number of devoted shippers is impressive enough for the writers to bow to the potential fan service and actually make Baez happen.
All we can do is wait for Blue Bloods to return with season 14. Currently, the premiere date remains unclear due to the ongoing strikes, but the show is likely to return at some point in 2024.
