Downton Abbey fans stunned to find stars are a real-life couple and have a child

Downton Abbey actors have mostly kept their relationship out of the public eye, meaning many fans weren’t aware they are together
Downton Abbey co-stars Laura Carmichael and Michael Fox, known fondly to viewers as Lady Edith Crawley and footman Andrew Parker, found love behind the scenes and are now proud parents to their son, who is four years old.
They’ve worked hard to maintain their family’s privacy, so much so that many fans were unaware of the couple’s off-screen romance.
The couple met when Michael joined the cast during the fifth season, leading to joint appearances not only on TV but also on the big screen in movies like Downton Abbey: A New Era.
Their love blossomed discreetly and it wasn’t until a year after filming ended that they decided to go public, making their first official appearance together in 2016.
In a heart-warming confession to Town and Country magazine, Laura expressed her gratitude for finding love whilst doing what she enjoys, saying, “When you are able to work, and love it, it is such a joy. I’ve fallen in love and made wonderful friends – how lucky am I?”

While Michael, in a chat with the Sunday Post, highlighted the couple’s dedication to professionalism on set, asserting, “We try not to talk about [our romance] too much outside of our personal lives – and that was the same on set. It was just professional.”
Echoing the thoughts of his partner, he said: “We’d go to work and we didn’t want it to be a thing in any way when we were working together – It was great, though, to go to work with your best pal!”
Michael, although best known for his role in Downton Abbey, is revealing he has hidden talents.
He’s also quite the musician and songwriter, performing with his group Luna when he’s not in front of the camera.
In other Downton Abbey news, the franchise’s third film has now been given an official title: The Grand Finale.
The eagerly awaited movie has a premiere date set for September 12, and while fans must be patient, the anticipation is further heightened by a teaser from the producers that tugs at heartstrings: “The time has come to say goodbye..”
