Downton Abbey star ‘cried eyes out’ watching final film

Downton Abbey is coming to an end for good with its third and final film on the way.
A Downton Abbey star has admitted she “properly wept” when she watched the franchise’s farewell film.
For the past 15 years, fans from across the world have loved everything to do with the unforgettable Crawley family and their team of servants that run the beautiful Downton Abbey like clockwork.
While the ITV show itself ended with six seasons in 2015, fans have still been able to enjoy the quintessential British franchise with its two follow-up films which came out in 2019 and 2022.
Now, the end is nigh as Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale, will be the third and final film to bring the beloved characters’ stories to a close.
Ahead of its release later this year, actress Joanne Froggatt, who brought to life head housemaid Anna Bates, has given an insight of what fans can expect.

Describing the movie as “really lovely” to ScreenRant, Froggatt shared: “Yeah, I was really satisfied. I actually cried my eyes out when I saw The Grand Finale.
“I properly wept for about 10 minutes, because of lots of reasons.
“Obviously, it’s the end of these characters, but also for us, it’s the end of playing these characters, and it’s the end of this incredible experience we’ve all lived together for 15 years on and off.
“So, for lots of reasons, it was a real full-circle moment, and it was very emotional, sentimental.

“I think the movie’s lovely, I think it’s really lovely. I think it’s exactly what people will want and hope from the finale.”
Since the series ended, Froggatt has gone on to work on a plethora of other dramas such as Liar, Angela Black, Sherwood, North Shore, Breathtaking, and most recently, Paramount+’s Mobland.
She will once again be joined by the majority of her former Downton Abbey co-stars for the film, including Michelle Dockery as Lady Mary, Jim Carter as Mr Carson and Hugh Bonneville as Robert Crawley.
It has also been reported that the film is going to include a tribute to the late Dame Maggie Smith who was behind Dowager Countess of Grantham, Violet Crawley.
