Downton Abbey Star Joanne Froggatt Announces Pregnancy as She Debuts Baby Bump on Red Carpet
The actress confirmed she’s expecting her first child while attending the 2024 Into Film Awards in London on Tuesday, June 25
On Tuesday, June 25, the British actress confirmed she’s expecting her first child as she revealed her baby bump during the 2024 Into Film Awards, at the Odeon Luxe Leicester Square in London.
A beaming Froggatt, who plays Anna Bates in Downton Abbey, cradled her belly as she matched the red carpet at the event in a scarlet mini dress featuring a long train and thin straps.
The mom-to-be, 43, added some extra height with a pair of coordinating satin scarlet heels, and wore her blond hair in a loose, straight style around her shoulders.
Froggatt’s rep didn’t immediately respond when contacted by PEOPLE.
In February 2020, Froggatt confirmed she’d split from now-ex husband James Cannon after seven years of marriage, telling The Telegraph they had “been separated for a little while.”
“I’m looking to the future,” the actress said at the time. “I’m just going to embrace this year and see what happens.”
Froggatt also told the outlet while discussing entering her 40s, “I thought I’d win an Oscar, be married with three kids and living in Hollywood.”
“But those are dreams that you have when you’re a teenager,” she added. “And then you go through the reality of life and nothing works out the way you expect, good or bad.”
She also said of potentially becoming a mother one day, “If it happens, it happens. And if it doesn’t, I hope I’ll still feel I can live a happy and fulfilled life.”
On top of having a baby on the way, Froggatt is one of many cast members returning for a third Downton Abbey movie, Focus Features confirmed in May.
After a successful run from 2010 to 2015, the beloved show had two movie spinoffs: 2019’s Downton Abbey and 2022’s Downton Abbey: A New Era.
Details for the upcoming flick are being kept under wraps.
