Former Doctor Who star shares advice for new companion

“It is the most exciting thing to go on adventures with the Doctor in the TARDIS.”

Doctor Who star Karen Gillan has offered her advice to the newest Doctor Who companion.

The actress who played Amy Pond on the BBC One series, alongside Matt Smith’s Eleventh Doctor between 2010 and 2012, has advised Millie Gibson to “just enjoy” the experience.

Coronation Street star Gibson will be playing companion Ruby Sunday, alongside Sex Education’s Ncuti Gatwa as the Fifteenth Doctor later this year.

“Your life’s about to turn upside down, but it’s… you know, just make sure that you keep all of your people around you and your support system and just enjoy it,” Gillan told Radio Times.

“It is the most exciting thing to go on adventures with the Doctor in the TARDIS. It’s like the best thing ever!”

She then went on to say if she would be interested in returning to the franchise in the future.

“I mean, yeah, it’s always nice when people appreciate anything that you’ve done,” she said. “But no, it’s cool to see that people are still intrigued by Amy Pond and whether she could return.”

She added: “Maybe, maybe not – I don’t know!”

A number of new cast members have been announced, including Drag Race legend Jinkx Monsoon, who will portray a villain.

Speaking about her role recently, the latter told Pride: “I’m terribly excited. It’s not easy to encapsulate how excited I am with words. I was saying to the director yesterday, the role that I’m playing, it’s like everything I ever dreamed about doing as an actor in one character.

“It’s insane. It’s like all of my actor fantasies have been rolled into one character, and now I get to do it all on a show that I love, written by a prolific writer, a voice of our generation who has written so many astounding things.”
