Fuhgeddaboud forgetting James Gandolfini: N.J. tribute planned for ‘Sopranos’ legend

Tony Soprano once advised that “those who want respect, give respect.”

The New Jersey Hall of Fame is following that guidance and hosting a tribute Sunday to the late actor James Gandolfini, who famously starred as New Jersey’s own Tony Soprano on “The Sopranos.”

The American Dream mall in East Rutherford is hosting the event starting at 1 p.m. Sunday on Court G, Level 3.

It is being billed as “a celebration of the life, work, and enduring legacy” of Gandolfini, who was inducted into the New Jersey Hall of Fame in 2014.

“His legacy continues to inspire and impact communities today,” the New Jersey Hall of Fame said in making the announcement.

Sunday’s event will feature a screening of “James Gandolfini: A Tribute to a Friend,” a documentary that aired on HBO several months after his death in 2013.

It also will honor Gandolfini’s support for U.S. veterans via the Wounded Warrior Project and his contributions to the OctoberWoman Foundation for Breast Cancer Research, organizers said.

It is the latest in a lengthy series of tributes in New Jersey to Gandolfini, who was born in Westwood, grew up in Park Ridge and graduated from Rutgers University.

A Garden State Parkway rest stop named for Gandolfini recently reopened after a lengthy renovation.
