How Howard’s Final Words Tie Everything Together in Better Call Saul

Was Howard right about Jimmy and Kim?

Better Call Saul is exceptional for many reasons, and characters are definitely one of the biggest of them. We’ve witnessed characters both evolve and degrade, and it was absolutely thrilling.

One of the best character developments in BCS was the one of Howard. While his death was absolutely terrible, his final monologue had some profound significance.

Howard’s final words to Jimmy and Kim were nothing short of a gut punch. He called them “soulless” and compared them to Leopold and Loeb, two infamous sociopaths.

He accused Jimmy of being born with an inherent inability to help himself, a trait that his brother Chuck had always recognized. As for Kim, Howard saw her as a promising and intelligent individual who had chosen a life of thrill and excitement over stability and righteousness.

The Reddit community has been buzzing with interpretations of Howard’s words. Some fans believe that Howard’s assessment of Kim was spot on.

Despite her brilliance and hard work, Kim chose a path that was far from conventional. She was drawn to the thrill of the game, a trait that was perhaps hinted at in the shoplifting scene from her childhood.

As for Jimmy, opinions are divided. Some fans believe that Howard’s claim that Jimmy was “born that way” is a reflection of Chuck’s influence on Howard’s perception of Jimmy.

Others argue that Howard became the target of Jimmy’s rage and jealousy after Chuck’s death, mainly because Howard had the strength to confront his feelings and work on himself, something Jimmy struggled with.

Howard’s words have left a lasting impact on the characters and the viewers alike. They have forced us to reevaluate our understanding of Jimmy and Kim’s characters and question the choices they’ve made.

It’s amazing how the creators of the series first made us dislike Howards and support Jimmy, and then turn things upside down. During his last minutes almost every fan was absolutely convinced that Howards is a good guy.

And right when we start to like him, he meets his end. And who is guilty? Jimmy and Kim. So, was Howard right about them? The answer isn’t straightforward, but that’s just another testament to the great writing of this show.
