If The Vampire Diaries Gets A Reboot, They Need To Fix All Bonnie Mess
She deserved a happy ending.
Nothing sounds as scary and exciting as a reboot of a beloved series. While there are many ways to look at the story from a different perspective, allowing for the passage of time to influence viewers’ opinions and writers’ choices, there are also numerous ways to ruin what was once loved.
After the failure of the Gossip Girl reboot, fans of many of the iconic TV shows of the 2010s decided that they were better off continuing to feed on the crumbs of the originals rather than being tortured by terrible revivals.
The same sentiment is shared by fans of The Vampire Diaries. And if there is ever going to be a reboot, they need to make sure some character arcs are resolved before they get too invested. Bonnie Bennett, for example, is one character whose ending would have to be changed for the better.
Bonnie and Enzo’s Ending
One of the worst things writers can do to a character is to make them happily fall in love and create the most beautiful pairing, only to rob them of any happiness later on. This is exactly what happened to Bonnie and Lorenzo St. John, better known as Enzo.
It was not a particularly difficult task to create a relationship that viewers would want to root for, considering how many truly toxic couples The Vampire Diaries has promoted throughout the series. But apparently it was a little too hard to keep the relationship likable, so the writers decided to go for the kill.
While Enzo wasn’t a protagonist at all, and there wasn’t much sympathy in losing him as a character, many fans felt that his death was yet another jab at Bonnie, who had suffered a lot throughout the series so far. She was the one who sacrificed herself to save all of her friends, and his magic was the only thing that kept them all alive most of the time.
Many believe that this treatment of Bonnie was a result of showrunner Julie Plec’s bias against actress Kat Graham because of her race. However, there has been no comment on that from either woman. The only thing that can be said for sure is that Bonnie’s character has always been the one who got the short end of the stick.
If the reboot does happen, it’s likely that all the characters will be recast and their storylines will get new twists as well. After all, since the show was adapted from books, there’s still a lot of room for interpretation. What fans are hoping for is that Bonnie’s treatment will not be the part that comes back with a big name and vampire romance.
