Jasmin Savoy Brown Reveals Why Scream 7 Director Kevin Williamson ‘Cries Every Day on Set’ (Exclusive)

The ‘Yellowjackets’ star will reprise her role as Mindy Meeks-Martin in the new installment of the slasher movie franchise

Jasmin Savoy Brown is dishing on all things Scream 7.

While promoting the buzzy new season of Yellowjackets, on which she plays the teenaged plane crash survivor Taissa, Brown, 30, teased the latest installment of the horror franchise, which is set for a February 2026 release.

Brown, 30, first joined the slasher series as Mindy Meeks-Martin in 2022’s Scream. She then reprised her role in Scream VI, which premiered in between the first two seasons of Yellowjackets in 2023.

Now, she and costar Mason Gooding, who joined the franchise as her twin brother, Chad, are reuniting with original stars Neve Campbell and Courteney Cox in the latest sequel, which is being directed by Kevin Williamson, who created the slasher hit and wrote the original Scream, Scream 2 and Scream 4.

When asked about working on the new movie, especially with Williamson, 59, stepping behind the camera, Brown gushed about the experience so far. “Oh my God, it’s a dream to get to work with Kevin. He is the kindest, most delightful person,” she told PEOPLE.

She then added, “I don’t know if he would like me saying this, but he cries every day on set because he’s so thrilled. This franchise started his career, and I am really honored to get to play his favorite character.”

On Jan. 7, when the movie first started filming, Williamson took to Instagram to share his excitement over what he experienced on set. “When you have one of the best days of your life it’s really hard to keep it to yourself,” he wrote.

“What an extraordinary day I had working with an amazing and talented cast and crew. They brought their ‘A’ game and had my back every step of the way. I’m so very grateful for this opportunity and to Wes Craven who was on my mind through it all,” he continued, referring to the late filmmaker who directed the first four Scream movies before dying at age 76 in 2015. “The profound impact he has had on my life and career is endless. What a day!”

In addition to Brown and the other returning stars, Scream 7 is welcoming several new cast members to the franchise, including Anna Camp, Mark Consuelos, Ethan Embry, Mckenna Grace and Joel McHale, who will play Sidney’s husband and also joined the Yellowjackets ensemble in an undisclosed role for season 3.

Acknowledging that they went from the Yellowjackets set to Scream’s, Brown joked about working with McHale, 53, on the back-to-back projects. “I was like, ‘You’re following me around. Stalker!’ ” she told PEOPLE, before adding, “He’s a really delightful guy. A delightful person and a great actor. And now I am pitching him for other projects because I just think everyone should hire him.”
