Lone Star’s Intense Final Tragedy Is Ruined By 9-1-1
9-1-1: Lone Star is heading into its final episodes, and although its last major disaster is quite intriguing, it’s completely negated by 9-1-1’s existence. The Fox procedural drama, created by Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk, and Tim Minear, is a spinoff to the series 9-1-1 (which aired on Fox for six seasons before moving to ABC for its seventh and eighth seasons). Unfortunately, 9-1-1: Lone Star is ending after season 5 in 2025, while 9-1-1 is alive and thriving on ABC as it’s in the midst of airing season 8.
For 9-1-1: Lone Star’s final season, the characters have undergone many changes. Most notably, Sierra McClain’s Grace exited ahead of the season 5 premiere, which has significantly affected her husband, Judd. She’s overseas helping those in need, while Judd is taking care of their daughter. Elsewhere, Carlos tirelessly searches for his father’s murderer, throwing a wrench into his and TK’s marriage. It doesn’t help that TK wants to adopt his younger brother, which Carlos is against. While the fall finale solves many of these problems, three episodes remain in 9-1-1: Lone Star season 5 to wrap up the show’s overall story.
Strand’s Team Deals With A Possible Asteroid Impact In The 9-1-1: Lone Star’s Final Episodes Trailer
Following the 9-1-1: Lone Star season 5 fall finale (episode 9), Fox released the trailer for the three remaining episodes. In the 30-second video, Owen is about to announce something to Station 126 (which he insists isn’t “the end of the world”) when they all get alerts on their phones. An asteroid is heading towards Austin, Texas, and people have an hour until it hits the ground. So, it appears as if it is the end of the world, after all.

It wouldn’t feel like the end of 9-1-1: Lone Star if the characters weren’t thrust into a dire situation, and the writers decided the show’s final tragedy would be an asteroid crash. As Wyatt says, the asteroid could simply “splinter into a million tiny pieces.” The more tragic option is that it will wipe out the state of Texas (or the entire country). Unfortunately, the video makes it seem as if it’s the latter. Chaos ensues in the streets, while the firefighters and paramedics look the worse for wear. 9-1-1 Still Ongoing Cheapens The Stakes Of Lone Star’s Final Tragedy
The stakes of the possible asteroid crash in the final episodes of 9-1-1: Lone Star season 5 are dreadfully low, thanks to 9-1-1 still being on the air after the spinoff’s finale. Since the two shows take place in the same universe, viewers know that the asteroid won’t wipe out entire populations. If 9-1-1 still exists after Lone Star’s end, the characters will undoubtedly find a way to stop the disaster. As a result, watching the last three episodes of 9-1-1: Lone Star won’t be as exciting, knowing that the event likely won’t have any significant impact on the world.
