LOTR: The Rings of Power – Was Galadriel Ever Tempted by Sauron?
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’s Morfydd Clark weighs in on whether Galadriel ever seriously considered joining forces with Sauron.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power star Morfydd Clark recently addressed the possibility that Galadriel was truly tempted by Sauron (Charlie Vickers) in Season 1.
Clark weighed in on whether Galadriel ever seriously considered joining up with Middle-earth’s would-be conqueror in an interview with Collider. “I don’t know,” she said. “I kind of want to keep it ambiguous, as well, but I think the thing with Galadriel is that she knows that should she go to the dark side things will be catastrophic. I’ve been thinking a lot about what the gift of foresight would actually feel like, and I’m like, ‘Is it just like increased anxiety in a way?’ Because you have all these ideas of what could be, what could be, what could be, and I think one of her big ‘What could bes’ is like, ‘What if I’m bad?’ But I don’t know. I mean, they definitely vibe because they’re very powerful, but I’m not sure.”
Sauron spends most of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 1 masquerading as Halbrand, heir to the Southlands’ throne and Galadriel’s ally. He is ultimately unmasked in the season finale, “Alloyed,” and parts ways with Galadriel after the Elven warrior rejects his offer of an alliance. This sets the stage for the pair to clash in The Rings of Power Season 2, and as Clark noted in a recent interview, Galadriel won’t be going into battle unprepared. “She’s about to become acquainted with Nenya, her ring,” Clark revealed.
The Rings of Power S2 Will Unleash Sauron
This doesn’t mean that Sauron will back down in the face of Galadriel’s expanded magical arsenal. According to Clark’s co-star Sophia Nomvete, the Dark Lord’s relentless campaign for control of Middle-earth will serve as the narrative spine for The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Powers’ next batch of episodes. “How does every single world navigate his time, his reign and his force?” Nomvete said. “And it is absolutely mind-blowing. I hope I’m allowed to say that but it’s so desperately exciting…. There is a lot to play for.”
What’s more, fans can also expect Sauron’s rise to impact the size of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 2’s action scenes. Amazon Studios’ Head of Global TV Vernon Sanders promised fans will witness “bigger battles” when the J.R.R. Tolkien-inspired series returns, teasing that “we’re going to watch some characters in some lands go to war” in the show’s second season.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 1 is currently streaming on Prime Video. Season 2 does not yet have a release date.
