Maisie Williams Addresses Potential Return to Game of Thrones Universe
So, no Arya’s cameo in Snow?
Ever since Game of Thrones ended, fans have been skeptical about HBO’s plans to expand the universe. While many enjoyed the setting and were intrigued by the political intrigue, the disappointing finale made it hard to believe that spinoffs would be handled any better.
However, with the runaway success of the series’ prequel, House of The Dragon, which was renewed for a second season by HBO the day after its premiere, the mood of the audience has changed. Though people are still quite cautious about what exactly they want to see, the idea of a promised Jon Snow spinoff doesn’t sound too bad.
Plus, the return of Jon Snow could bring a lot of beloved Stark children together for a cameo. As much as the audience loves Kit Harrington, the appearance of Maisie Williams’ Arya or Sophie Turner’s Sansa would make everyone even more excited for the premiere. However, it’s very questionable whether the actors would be willing to return.
For example, while Maisie Williams is excited to see what else the showrunners can come up with and where the Game of Thrones universe can go, she is not so sure about her own possible return. She talked about it back in 2022, in an interview with GQ.
“I’m not saying it would never happen, but I’m also not saying it in this interview so that everyone goes ‘The spin-off! It’s coming!’ Because it’s not. It has to be the right time and the right people. It has to be the right time and the right people. It has to be right in the context of all the other spin-offs and the universe of Game of Thrones,” the actress said.
Clearly, whatever role in the script she’d be suggested by Jon Snow writers, she’ll hold to a very high standard before agreeing to do it. Looking back at House of The Dragon’s plot intensity and the quality of writing, that shouldn’t be a problem. However, to see whether that will happen or not, we have to wait until the production officially begins.
Until then, you can rewatch the original Game of Thrones series on MAX.
