Netflix’s One Piece Star Visits Cobra Kai Set in BTS Video
“Actor, rapper, and professional TV sailor” Iñaki Godoy, star of Netflix’s live-action One Piece, crashed the set of Cobra Kai in a new behind-the-scenes video. Cobra Kai is on its sixth and final season, with part 2 on its way; the video gives a bit of a sneak peek at what’s to come.
Godoy, who plays Monkey D. Luffy in One Piece, is featured in a brand new behind-the-scenes video for Netflix’s Cobra Kai. Godoy claimed to be a huge Cobra Kai fan and crashed the set of the Karate Kid spinoff series. This isn’t the first time One Piece and Cobra Kai have collided since nearly a year ago when Cobra Kai actor Jacob Bertrand, who plays Hawk, did the same thing for the One Piece set. Now, Godoy is here to return the favor.
The video showcases Godoy touring the various set pieces and props of Cobra Kai, including Johnny Lawrence’s Apartment, Miyagi-Do Dojo, and even the iconic car from the first Karate Kid movie. Godoy is also shown participating in reenacting various fight choreography scenes with Stunt coordinators. Godoy even received a custom-made straw hat Pirate-themed gi. This culminated in a short fight scene where Godoy teamed up with Xolo Maridueña, who plays Miguel Diaz, and Jaime Reyes in Blue Beetle.
Xolo Maridueña Has Been Fancast as Ace
While the video was a fun behind-the-scenes look at Cobra Kai, fans took note of Maridueña’s heavy presence alongside Godoy. Recently, Maridueña reacted to the popular fan cast of him as Luffy’s Adoptive brother, Portgas D. Ace, stating that playing the role would be a “dream.” When Godoy appeared on his podcast, fans began pushing for Maridueña to play the role.
Despite the hype, Maridueña did clarify he had not auditioned for the role, stating, “I’ve got to audition for it. I’ve got to go the same route as everyone else. Unless they’re like, ‘Hey, this guy here is so perfect’.” There is still no official confirmation of whether or not Maridueña will play Ace in Season 2 of One Piece, but the video gave a glimpse into what that might look like.
One Piece Season 2 has already begun production; however, there is currently no official release date. Part 1 of Cobra Kai’s sixth and final season is available to stream on Netflix. Part 2 will be released on November 28th, and part 3 should come out sometime in 2025.
