What Lydia did to all the women in her care was horrible, but she was motivated by what she believed would keep them safe. Acting from a place of confusion but genuine concern, she forcibly removed all freedom from these women, but she thought it was what was best for them under the rules of Gilead.

Now, at the height of her internal conflict, viewers expect Aunt Lydia to turn against Gilead and earn her redemption. Not only would that be a logical turn in her development, but it would also be a great way to keep fans hooked on her character before moving into the territory of The Testaments.
