An Outlander boss has opened up on the upcoming “emotional battles” that fans will face in the second half of season seven.
Outlander’s executive producer labelled season seven part two as having some of the drama’s “most poignant” moments.
The Starz series is midway through its penultimate outing which began in June last year with subscribers eagerly waiting for the second half, due to come out in the coming months.
In the midseason finale, Brianna Fraser (played by Sophie Skelton) said a tear-jerking farewell to her husband Roger Wakefield (Richard Rankin) and Buck (Graham McTavish) as they went back through the stones to get back their kidnapped son Jemmy.
In the 19th Century, Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) was suffering from seasickness on the British ship when Claire (Caitriona Balfe) and Ian Murray spotted their first glimpse of the Scottish coast, signalling they were home.
The first part may have been filled with heartfelt scenes but according to an Outlander boss, there is even more to come.
Speaking on the official Outlander podcast, executive producer Matthew B Roberts gave a teaser for what’s to come in the rest of season seven.
“It’s like a rollercoaster, some episodes are going to have you high as a kite and we’re going to bring you down and you’re going to be as low as possible,” he said.
“And when I say low, I mean emotionally wrecked as we try to do.
“There’s battles on the horizon, both in war, guns, cannons, but also emotional battles.
“And I will say some of the most poignant, emotional battles are coming up in the back half that I can’t wait for you guys to see.”
Part two is going to resolve the mystery around Jemmy’s whereabouts after Brianna and Roger thought he had been taken through the stones by Rob Cameron (Chris Fulton).
It will also focus on the events that occur in author Diana Gabaldon’s seventh and eighth books of the Outlander novel series, An Echo in the Bone and Written in My Heart’s Own Blood.
In the books, not long after arriving in Scotland, Claire is asked to perform life-saving surgery in Philadelphia on Marsali (Lauren Lyle) and Fergus’ (Cesar Domboy) son Henri-Christian.
After Ian dies, Jamie and his sister Jenny (Laura Donnelly) decide to visit Claire in the US and let her know which ship they are taking.
But they end up missing that ship and sail a few days later, leaving Claire to believe her husband is dead when she hears their initial ship has sunk.
The show has mostly kept to the books’ plots but it has already been confirmed that neither Marsali nor Fergus will be appearing in part two.
So the plot may alter slightly but it could still mean Claire will be left heartbroken, believing Jamie to be killed in a shipwreck.
