Outlander prequel starts filming, casts Jamie and Claire’s parents
The prequel series will follow the love stories of both Jamie and Claire’s parents.
Sassenachs, Starz brings us good tidings.
Outlander: Blood of My Blood, the prequel series to their hit historical drama, has officially started production in Scotland. The network also announced their core cast, a quartet of actors who will bring to life the parents of both Jamie (Sam Heughan) and Claire (Caitriona Balfe).
Harriet Slater (Pennyworth) will portray Jamie’s mother Ellen Mackenzie opposite Jamie Roy (Condor’s Nest) as Jamie’s father, Brian Fraser. Their love story will take place in 18th-century Scotland, preceding the events of Outlander.
Additionally, in a new addendum to the series from what was previously announced, the prequel will also follow the love story of Claire’s parents in World War I-era England. Hermione Corfield (The Road Dance) and Jeremy Irvine (Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again) will tackle the roles of Julia Moriston and Henry Beauchamp.
“We’re thrilled to be telling the stories of these two couples,” said Matthew B. Roberts, the prequel’s showrunner, in a statement. “The origins of their relationships explore universal themes that transcend time periods and we’re so excited for fans to discover and fall in love with these characters and their love stories the way they have with Claire and Jamie.”
The first season will be 10 episodes. No release date has been set.
Outlander still has more to give from the mothership as well. The back half of the supersized seventh season will air on Starz later this year, with eight more episodes to come. Production will begin shortly on their eighth and final season as well.
