Outlander star details the final days of show as fans get ready for drama’s return

Not a lot of details are known about the second half of season 7, but one of the stars has given an insight at last

An Outlander star has described the emotional scenes that came as the cast finished filming the show’s finale. The hit Starz drama is currently on hiatus until the second half of season seven begins on November 22.

The drama will pick up with Jamie (played by Sam Heughan) and Claire Fraser (Caitriona Balfe) embarking on a trip back to Scotland. Meanwhile, Roger Mackenzie (Richard) and his wife Brianna Fraser (Sophie Skelton) were left devastated by the kidnapping of their son Jemmy (Blake Johnston-Miller) by Rob Cameron (Chris Fulton).

With everything at stake heading into the last episodes of the latest season, Richard suggests the conclusion of Outlander will be even more overwhelming. He said: “It was a very emotional read-through. We had photos up from all the past seasons of the show.”

Filming for season eight is currently underway after it was initially put on hold by the Hollywood strikes. Starz is reportedly eyeing a mid-to-late 2025 premiere for the final instalment, and there will be plenty of nostalgia involved for the cast and fans after more than a decade on screens.

The cast has recently been filming at Castle Leoch, where much of Outlander’s first season took place. “You can feel the nostalgia and what it meant to people,” Richard told Square Mile. “There were a lot of tears in the room that day.”

Previewing what’s to come for Roger in the next episodes, the star said: “The second half of season seven is really some of the best stuff I think we’ve shot for Outlander. It’s an incredible adventure for Roger, because we don’t often see him without [his wife] Brianna – they’ve always been such a team.”

Plot details remain a mystery to fans, especially as there are a planned 10 entries in the series of novels by Diana Gabaldon, with each season tending to adapt a book each. However, the final season may have to take some departures from Diana’s story to wrap up the Frasers’ adventures with a satisfying conclusion.
