Outlander’s Young Ian Murray actor John Bell lauded his co-stars and the producing duo.
Outlander star John Bell has paid tribute to his onscreen uncle and aunt, Jamie (played by Sam Heughan) and Claire Fraser (Caitríona Balfe).
In an exclusive interview with Daily Express, the 25-year-old Scottish actor praised the twosome for both leading the show as well as serving as producers.
Bell paid tribute to them and explained his big takeaways from working with Balfe and Heughan: “It’s hard to sum up. I was thinking, ‘Do I say a joke here?’
“But I’ve literally learned so much about how to be on a set with them.
“I’ve been working in the acting business since I was eight-years-old, so I’ve learned the way of a set, but they’ve just become such inspirations for how I want to continue my career, who I aspire to be like.”
The Young Ian Murray star continued: “Sam is a complete professional, but always up for a good time, always up for a laugh.
“And Caitríona – I am obsessed with Caitríona […] she is an absolute legend and someone I go to for advice on not just acting but a lot of stuff, someone I just admire and respect.
“It’s hard to sum up just one or two things. It’s their attitude, their [professionalism] and their fun.”
He added: “It’s all something I’ve learned and taken on board.”
Bell joined Outlander back in 2017 as Young Ian Murray, who is spirited away by smugglers at the behest of villainess Geillis Duncan (Lotte Verbeek) with Jamie and Claire traveling to the West Indies to rescue him.
Prior to landing the part in the Starz series, Bell had appeared in many other projects including AMC’s Into the Badlands, Wrath of the Titans, Tracy Beaker Returns and The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug.
Further credits include Doctor Who, Midsomer Murders, Hatfields & McCoys, Hattie and T2 Trainspotting as a young Spud.
Outlander has put the young actor on map and sent his star status soaring with IMDb listing upcoming projects including Miss Temperance and The Man in the Box.
Bell also reflected on Outlander coming to an end after Starz confirmed season eight would be the final outing for the epic historical drama.
He said the show wrapping up was “bittersweet” but a “privilege” to have been part of Outlander for so long with many other series facing the axe long before making it to season eight.
Bell said: “I’m immensely proud but then there is the sadness of something coming to an end and feeling like it’s part of your life.
“It’s all memories now. But then it happened and it was beautiful, so I’m proud mostly.”
