The much-loved historical drama series Outlander is set to conclude after its forthcoming eighth season, with the final eight episodes of season seven airing later this year. The Starz hit has enthralled viewers with the story of 18th-century Scottish warrior Jamie Fraser (portrayed by Sam Heughan) and his love affair with ’40s time-travelling nurse Claire Randall (Caitriona Balfe).
After seven captivating seasons, Heughan and the cast have finished filming for what will be the last instalment, expected to premiere next year. In a heartfelt interview reported by the Daily Record, Heughan mused on the end of an era, stating: “It’s been a huge part of my life,” and pondered his future with, “So, I don’t know where I go from here” He also playfully suggested joining the Today show team, joking, “If you guys have got a spare seat…” which sparked laughter among the hosts.
Craig humorously replied: “There are a couple of openings here! ” Fans have shown their excitement for the recent surge of interviews with the Outlander actors, with one YouTube user commenting: “Love to see Sam Heughan in these interviews! “.
Fans have lavished praise on the actor’s diverse achievements, commenting: “Such a great actor, entrepreneur and always a gentleman. Can’t wait to see more of his work in the future. Thank you for having him on your show! ” One fan couldn’t contain their excitement, exclaiming, “Best show ever, we don’t want it to end! And we fans can’t wait to see what comes next for this amazing man and the rest of the cast.”
Further admiration was given when they mentioned, “Btw, Sam didn’t mention his Sassenach gin, it’s delicious too.”, reports the Scottish Daily Express.
Stepping beyond his acclaimed role as Jamie Fraser, Heughan has ventured into the drinks industry with his label, Sassenach Spirits, creating whisky and gin that evoke his character’s endearing term for Claire. While there haven’t been confirmed new acting gigs due to his busy Outlander schedule filming seasons seven and eight, his recent portrayal of Danny in Channel 4 and Starz’s The Couple Next Door has sparked talks of a second season.
Additionally, Heughan has re-teamed with Outlander co-star Graham McTavish for two series of Men In Kilts, where they explored Scottish heritage in the first and took an adventure through New Zealand in the second to uncover deep-set connections between the countries.
