“Power Book II: Ghost” star, Gianni Paolo Speaks On The Show Being Canceled By STARZ
“Power Book II: Ghost” star, Gianni Paolo is speaking out about Starz canceling the hit show after season 4. While speaking with TMZ in the airport Paolo said that he feels like it’s “crazy” that the show came to an end.
“We did season 4 because that’s when you renegotiate so we got paid a little bit on that season 4, but look we broke all the network records so it’s crazy that a show ends with season 4 when they broke all the records season 3.” During the quick interview the actor also praised 50 Cent for the opportunity and said he will be down to continue the show if 50 decided to take it to another network. “I will rock with 50 until the day I die. He’s been so good to me he’s been so nice to me so anything he needs no matter if I’m shooting a Marvel movie for 9 months somewhere, if he needs me somewhere I’m going to go there for him just because he’s been so great to me.”
Paolo also added that STARZ is cutting back on cost. “We broke all of the records that’s all I really have to say they’re cutting back on cost. No shade to the other shows but you see when it’s made cheaper what it looks like.”
As we previously reported, the show’s lead actor, Michael Rainey Jr. revealed to the world that he wasn’t aware the show was coming to an end. “Don’t ask me nothing idk what’s goin on in them offices lmao they trippin,” he told his 3.2 millions followers on his Instagram Stories. “Final season otw tho I guess.”
He also shared an X post from a staff writer who stated he was shocked by the news after recently receiving praise from those in charge.
“Ain’t hear from STARZ or Lionsgate once about the show trajectory,” the writer said. “Literally sat in their faces last month with a pitch and all I kept hearing is how much they adored the work done on Ghost. Adored it so much that they didn’t bother to tell anybody on staff we got canned.”
When the news broke, STARZ CEO Jeffrey Hirsch released a statement to DEADLINE and explained why they chose to cut ties with the show. “You look at the [Power] map and say, ‘Okay, if I take one of those characters out and spin one of those out, I can bring that on to replace the Power show at half the cost,’” he told Deadline.
“Now I’m putting a lot of money right to the bottom line. And I’m really not losing anything in terms of acquisition costs and subscriber viewership, because we know what those demos want. And we know how to line those up.”
