Rings of Power Season 2 Finale Trailer Sets Up an Epic Conclusion
A teaser trailer for the finale of The Rings of Power streaming on Prime Video sets up a Season 2 finale that includes balrogs, a confrontation between King Durin and Prince Durin as well as Nori and Poppy seemingly in danger with the Dark Wizard and The Stranger. Per Total Film, the trailer also shows the elf Arondir (Ismael Cruz Córdova), who was thought to be slain by Adar (Sam Hazeldine) in Episode 7, very much alive and fighting in Eregion.
The Season 2 finale will stream on Prime Video on Oct. 3.
Confrontation Between Prince Durin and King Durin
“Take off the ring, or I’ll take off the whole hand,” Dwarf Prince Durin (Owain Arthur) is heard exclaiming to his father, the king (Peter Mullan), as they face off in a confrontation in the clip, streaming on Prime. Another bit shows Annatar/Sauron, played by Charlie Vickers, battling Galadriel (Morfydd Clark) and reclaiming his crown.
Episode 7 of The Rings of Power also proved very powerful, with Celebrimbor (Charles Edwards) discovering Annatar was deceiving him. It was revealed in the episode that the elf was disguising his true identity as Sauron.
Romantic Undertones Again this Season
The penultimate Season 2 episode also featured a kiss between Elrond (Robert Aramayo) and Galadriel during which Elrond cleverly slipped Galadriel his cloak pin, which she then used to escape capture from the orcs.
“It’s a shocking thing to do in that tent, in that moment,” Aramayo told Total Film. “I think it’s a smart tactic on Elrond’s I understand – obviously – given the lore and what we know about Elrond and Galadriel’s future… I understand the controversy that may ensue,” he added. In Tolkien lore, Galadriel ends up being Elrond’s mother-in-law.
In Season 1, Galadriel was shown being manipulated and romanced by Sauron, then disguised as Halbrand, which eventually helps the evildoer make his way into Eregion and into Celebrimbor’s life to start forging his rings. Sauron also uses his mind games to manipulate the Elves in the city, especially Mirdania (Amelia Kenworthy), who is Celebrimbor’s assistant. Things do not end well for Mirdania in Episode 7 as Sauron uses his manipulative skills again, resulting in a tragic end.
The Battle Between Adar and Arondir
Episode 7 also includes an epic battle between Adar and Arondir.Cruz Córdova commented to Variety on the scene. “As far as the battles go, he gets a little more reckless. That recklessness, that’s the mistake that I made. I get super emotional. That allows Adar to get me. Otherwise, Arondir would have been able to face him in an equal way,” he said.
The battle is the catalyst to help free Galadriel from Adar’s camp of orcs.
Cruz Córdova added most of the physical scenes in the show are his own work and not a stunt double. “All the wire work and everything you see on the show, it’s me,” he said. “I only have a tiny bit of a stunt that I have a double for, because it was supposed to be one take, and we had to split it – but the rest is me. I learned all of that in the first season,” Córdova said.
The actor also hinted a third season of The Rings of Power may be on the horizon. “As far as I know, they did kind of confirm that we’re going for a third. I haven’t seen any scripts, hough. I would love to. But, I’m pretty sure we’re going for a third,” he said.
The Rings of Power is based on the stories of J.R.R. Tolkien and is set thousands of years prior to The Hobbit and The Lord of The Rings trilogy.
