Rings of Power Season 2 Gives Galadriel & Arondir Their Most Important Mission Yet
In The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, partnerships have always been key. It showed in Season 1 when the Southlands united with the realm of Númenor to fight off Adar’s forces. Season 2 now has Adar trying to work with Galadriel to stop Sauron at the Eregion Forge.
However, Galadriel isn’t up for an alliance. She knows giving Adar a ring to complement Morgoth’s crown would make Adar too powerful to control. Luckily, by the time the penultimate episode ends, Galadriel finds a partner she can rely on: Arondir. This time, they have the most important mission they’ve ever had in J.R.R. Tolkien’s Middle-earth.
Rings of Power Season 2 Has Arondir Rescuing Galadriel
Thanks to Elrond slipping her a trinket during a peacetime talk with Adar, Galadriel is able to slip her shackles. She sneaks around, but knows she’ll be outnumbered if the orcs catch her. Luckily, Arondir rescues her with his bow and arrow. They fought together in the Southlands, showing even a Silvan Elf like Arondir can work with royals from Gil-galad’s regal camp.
Arondir is living up to the oath he spoke to Theo of. He also told the Ents he’d destroy Adar’s forces for cutting down and burning their trees. With Galadriel at his side, he has a trusted teammate. They can now rejoin Elrond’s legion and take Adar’s army down, all before going into the Forge to snuff out Sauron and free Celebrimbor. The thing is, Celebrimbor finds them and lets them know they have a bigger objective: one they must keep secret.
Rings of Power Needs Galadriel & Arondir to Protect the Nine Rings
Celebrimbor broke out Sauron’s mental trap and stole the nine rings he made for Men. They can’t be destroyed and can only be hidden. A lot is down to Sauron’s blood, not mithril, being used to mold them. Celebrimbor and his Elves can’t join them, however. They must go kill Sauron in his Annatar form. This is the only way to redeem what they did at this burning palace.
Galadriel and Arondir accept this responsibility. They have double duty to pull. Adar’s forces are scorching the place. Nonetheless, a lot of the focus is on Galadriel. She gave Elrond her magical ring, Nenya, as she knew the Elves may need a weapon someday. Plus, she didn’t like how it was corrupting her, and now, she has nine rings to tend to. Chances are, she won’t be drawn to them, as they’re not for her species. But desperate times could call for desperate measures.
These events naturally have Sauron feeling enraged. He slaughters most of Celebrimbor’s guards and begins torturing the forger. He will stop at nothing to get the nine. The Elven rings and the seven sent to the Dwarves haven’t given him his pawns, but he thinks the nine will, as he knows how impure, war-lusty and greedy Men can be.
Ultimately, Galadriel and Arondir will have targets on their backs, whether it be in the field or if they try to flee Eregion. The stakes are higher than ever, with Arondir set to show he is better than Legolas once more. Galadriel is also poised to atone for bringing the merchant of death, Sauron, to Eregion in the first place.
