Rob Lowe Says ‘Never Say Never’ to Reprising His 9-1-1: Lone Star Role: ‘A Character That Means a Lot to Me’ (Exclusive)

The Fox show’s series finale aired on Feb. 3

Rob Lowe isn’t closing the door on the 9-1-1 universe just yet.

The actor, 60, tells PEOPLE in an exclusive interview that he is open to returning as Owen Strand, a role he played for five seasons on 9-1-1: Lone Star, should the opportunity ever arise.

“Listen, I never say never to anything, and it’s a character that means a lot to me,” Lowe, who has partnered with Ultimate Pet Nutrition, says.

“I have such respect and admiration for first responders, and it’s an honor whenever I can bring their stories to the screen, so you never know,” he adds.

Lowe’s 9-1-1: Lone Star character is a firefighter captain from New York City, who, after being diagnosed with lung cancer due to the September 11 terrorist attacks, rebuilds a firefighting team in Austin, Texas.

The series, created by Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Tim Minea, was a spinoff of 9-1-1 and premiered in January 2020.

Looking at the series’ season finale, which aired on Feb. 3, Lowe is happy with how things ended, for his character and the fans watching.

“I’m really enjoying people’s reaction to it. I think people really appreciated us ending it on a positive note for all the characters that they’ve invested in for the five seasons,” he says. “And it is very clear that the audience is going to miss the show as much as we’re going to miss doing it.”

Currently, Lowe serves as host of The Floor, a game show based on the Dutch series of the same name where contestants take part in a variety of trivia subjects.

Season three of the series will premiere on Feb. 9, right after the 2025 Super Bowl, where the Kansas City Chiefs will face off against the Philadelphia Eagles at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans.

“That’s the most valuable piece of real estate in all of media, so the fact that Fox gave it to our show is something that doesn’t happen every day, and I’m celebrating that,” Lowe tells PEOPLE. “I’m super pumped that multiple millions of new potential game players will be able to sample it after the world’s greatest game, which is the Super Bowl.”
