Roxann Dawson portrayed Lt. B’Elanna Torres, the chief engineer, on Star Trek: Voyager for seven seasons.
Roxann Dawson hasn’t acted since a 2011 episode of “The Closer.” Instead, the actress took her talents behind the scenes after having sat in the director’s chair for two episodes of Star Trek: Voyager. Now, Dawson has over 58 director’s credits, the most recent of which is Apple TV’s “Foundation.”
While plenty of fans have wanted Dawson’s character of Torres to return to one of the current (or even future) Star Trek projects, she dashed their hopes in an interview with Slashfilm. Though she’s been approached about returning to the Trek fold, most likely in the director’s chair, Dawson said she hadn’t done science fiction in a while and was trying to move away from that before she was approached about directing Foundation, which is a science fiction show.

An in demand director, Dawson said though there’s wonderful work being done on Star Trek now, she hasn’t really wanted to go back. In fact, she loves moving on to other things.
“The current versions of ‘Star Trek’ I think are wonderful. I’ve seen ‘Discovery,’ I’ve seen ‘Picard.’ I think there’s such wonderful and modern work being done there right now that we really can’t categorize it in the way that we might have in the ’90s. But no, I haven’t really wanted to go back. I feel like I’ve been there and I’ve done that, and I love moving on to other things. So that’s where I am at with it.”
A few months ago, a rumor began swirling about a Star Trek: Voyager reboot being in active development at Paramount, and while there’s been no forward movement on that, it would be disheartening to see such a reboot go forward without B’Elanna Torres, especially if Robert Duncan McNeill is onboard because that could mean a breakup for the pair. But it’s apparent Dawson has found her place in life even if that means leaving Star Trek behind.
