Sauron Actor Charlie Vickers Starred in a Show With the Exact Opposite Ratings Problem as The Rings of Power

Charlie Vickers’ underrated series proves itself as competition for Rings of Power in one very big way, and it has everything to do with ratings.
When one thinks of Charlie Vickers, his role in Medici isn’t the first thing that pops into their head. Rings of Power is his most popular work, with the role of Sauron helping him break into the mainstream. However, long before he starred in The Lord of the Rings spin-off, he played the role of Guglielmo Pazzi in the second season of the period series. Considering that both shows have similar themes of different eras, their Rotten Tomatoes scores showcase something very interesting about critics and audiences.
Where RoP is loved by critics, sitting at an 84% rating, the audience gave it a concerning 49%. Medici, on the other hand, had the opposite problem. While the critics gave the series a 50% rating, audiences loved it enough to award it with 83%. With this, one cannot help but wonder about the reasoning behind it.
Medici: Charlie Vickers’s Underrated Gem

Many good shows get hidden because of the brightness of mainstream projects, and Medici seems to be one of them. While the 2016 series still has passionate fans, they are evidently fewer in number, making one wonder exactly why the series didn’t get the hype it deserved.
It would seem these conversations have been active among the fandom on Reddit, with the question being put forth for discussion. Starting off, fans talked about just how good the series is. On top of having an impressive cast of actors, ranging from Richard Madden to Brian Cox, the series also had a very compelling storyline that had fans hooked for three seasons.

With all of the odds in its favor, the show should have reached the same heights as Reign and even Game of Thrones. However, fans believe that it was the studios that doomed Charlie Vickers’ show. Some speculated that the series was not marketed correctly, resulting in not enough people finding out about it.
While the show got to finish its run without being cancelled, audiences believe it to be a great tragedy that it didn’t get the acclaim that it deserved.
The Rings of Power: A Proof of Critics’ Disconnect With the Audience

While Medici’s fans loyally stand by it even after its end, Charlie Vickers’s Rings of Power is finding it difficult to be defended by its viewers, even though it is actively releasing. The series stands as the most polarizing work to come out of The Lord of the Rings franchise, with fans discussing which aspect they disliked the most on Reddit.
The production value was one thing that fans discussed the most, believing that despite its high budget, the series was unable to keep its quality consistent. While they agree that its high production budget might be a subject of debate, there were other issues that stuck out for other viewers. Fans discussed the series being poorly written and imitating the mastery of J.R.R. Tolkien.

In addition to this, viewers believed that the series was simply not entertaining, resulting in its low audience score. Considering this, it is surprising that the series has gotten good reviews from critics. In fact, this could easily showcase the rift that is growing between the audience and the critics, much like the controversy surrounding Emilia Perez’s Oscar wins.
While there are those who believe the series to be good, their voices get muffled by the discourse. With this, do you believe that Rings of Power is deserving of the hate it gets, and Medici deserving of its loving audience?
