Seinfeld Reboot Addressed By Julia Louis-Dreyfus After “Secret” Project Teased
Elaine actor Julia Louis-Dreyfus responds to recent comments made by Jerry Seinfeld regarding a mysterious new Seinfeld project being in the works.
Following comments from Jerry Seinfeld regarding a new Seinfeld project, Elaine actor Julia Louis-Dreyfus now responds. First airing in 1989, the show, which is co-created by Seinfeld and Larry David, would become one of the most popular sitcoms of a generation, coming to an end in 1998. The Seinfeld finale remains divisive even decades later, however, and Seinfeld recently teased at one of his standup shows that “something is going to happen that has to do with that ending,” but it’s so far unclear exactly what this means.
Now, in a recent interview with The Guardian, Louis-Dreyfus offers her thoughts on the mystery Seinfeld project the show’s co-creator is referring to. According to the series regular, however, she’s just as in the dark as everybody else. Check out Louis-Dreyfus’ full comment below:
“Yeah, I just saw [that news] last night. And I don’t know what the hell he’s talking about.”
What Will The Mystery Seinfeld Project Be?
“Just what you are thinking about, Larry [David] and I have also been thinking about. So, you’ll see,” Seinfeld told his Boston audience regarding the project. While it’s possible that there is some sort of scripted reboot on the way, it’s possible that the comedian is referring to something a little less formal. A reunion of the Seinfeld cast, for example, could be on the cards, which would see the show follow in the footsteps of Friends. The cast of Friends reunited for a special in 2021, reminiscing about their time on the show.
It’s also not uncommon for actors to reprise iconic roles for advertisements or commercials. Often, initial announcements about these commercials are vague, causing expectations to run high, with disappointment then ensuing when it ends up being a brief, brand-oriented video. There was excitement regarding a potential Bruce Willis Die Hard project in 2020, for example, but then it ended up being a commercial for car batteries.
It seems very unlikely that Seinfeld will return as a proper show for a multiple-episode season, but if it is indeed a scripted revival of some sort, the cast could reunite for a one-off special. This would be surprising given Seinfeld’s previous comments about a revival feeling “sad,” but a special could give each of the main characters a more fitting sendoff than the finale did. It’s unclear if Louis-Dreyfus is truly in the dark regarding whatever Seinfeld project is to come, but hopefully more will be revealed in the coming weeks.
