Sidelined The Handmaid’s Tale Storyline That Could Make Season 6 a Tearjerker
Is the show really going to bring in one more baby with doomed fate?
The Handmaid’s Tale is definitely one of the most depressing shows in recent years. The dystopian series follows the world wounded by the totalitarian society called Gilead, where people have no rights and everything is under the control of a bunch of Commanders.
In the first season of the show we met Nick, the key character in June Osborne’s story. In this lost world they found peace in the company of each other, but the cruel society made Nick get married, only to kill the young soul for one mistake she did.
After that, Nick was forced to get remarried to Rose, a young woman who has some sort of medical condition. It wasn’t cleared in the show, but it’s not hard to understand that she may have some sort of hip dysplasia as she walks with a cane.
At the end of season 5 we realized that Rose is pregnant, and that fact brings many concerns to the fans. Especially after the scene in episode 9 when we felt Rose’s concerns about how healthy her baby might be.
“I think that might be foreshadowing. The baby might be born with an issue and get sent to the shredder. That’s what convinces Nick to actually help destroy Gilead,” Redditor Globalfeminist said.
The “shredder” concept suggests that any baby born with a disability will be killed, and many fans are worried that this will happen to the poor child. But there are also those who think that the baby might be stillborn, since Rose’s pregnancy is already considered a high-risk one.
This particular thought came to the fans because of the fact that by far almost every pregnancy in the series ended well. All the handmaids, along with some wives, had healthy babies, which is not so common in the real world.
“For a world where healthy pregnancies and babies are a rarity there’s certainly a healthy baby boom in June’s close inner circle. I mean, June, Janine and Serena all had perfect healthy babies, and now Esther and Rose are expecting. The odds just aren’t in Rose’s favor,” Redditor Strange_Swimming_800 said.
Fans also remember Gilead’s cruel policy of putting the health of the baby first. So it’s not clear what will happen to Rose if there’s ever a question of who to save…
Season 6 of The Handmaid’s Tale is now in the making, but there are no release details yet.
