Steven Krueger teases the upcoming twists in ‘Yellowjackets’ season three: “Oh my God”

In a recent exclusive interview with Far Outactor Steven Krueger discussed playing Coach Ben Scott in Showtime’s survival thriller Yellowjackets. The star talked at length about the benefits of playing a character who grows and evolves so much throughout two and a half brutal seasons. Interestingly, he revealed that season three afforded him the opportunity to take part in some of his biggest storylines yet.

The interview was conducted after episode four, in which Coach Ben was put on trial, but before episode six, the harrowing instalment where he sadly met his grisly demise. However, at the time, Krueger was only too happy to tease the twists and turns still to come in the latter part of the season, even if his character has exited proceedings. Intriguingly, he claimed certain things are going to happen that were so unexpected to the cast that it made them all exclaim, “Oh my God” – and fans aren’t going to be able to predict it, either.

Krueger admits that he didn’t initially pay much attention to fan theories but became more interested in them the deeper into the weeds the show got. “I didn’t at all in season one,” he told Far Out, “just because I wanted to kind of insulate myself. It’s tough anytime you start to engage with fan theories or even just like fan feedback. That’s a double-edged sword, right? It’s always fun to hear when people love something or are intrigued by something, but with that also comes the bad. You run into those comments once in a while that somebody wasn’t responding to something in the show, and that’s just so heartbreaking.”

However, with the show’s third season bringing a lot of story threads together, Krueger revealed he became much more intrigued by what fans were theorising about. “It’s interesting, especially at this stage of the game, to occasionally see what people are putting online,” he explained. “Just because this, to me, is the payoff season of the show. This is where we start to finally get answers to a lot of the questions. It’s a slow burn this season, but by the end of the season, I can promise pretty much all the questions are answered, and the seeds we have planted since the beginning pay off.”

With a devilish glint in his eye, Krueger teased, “It’s very fun knowing that that’s coming over the back half of the season, and seeing just how right or wrong fans may be about the predictions and just how like wild they’re getting.”

Without giving away Ben’s fate in episode six, a cautious Krueger mused, “I will say I’ve read a couple about very specific storylines – especially ones that involve Coach Ben – where I’m like, ‘That’s actually pretty good. That’s pretty close to what’s going to happen. So, I’m very impressed, and I think those people will be happy once they see it play out.”

In terms of the grander story of the remainder of the season, though, Krueger claimed every fan is way, way off with their guesses. “I will say I have not seen a single one where anybody is even close to what happens over the back half of the season,” he insisted. “It’s very unexpected. I can vividly remember us getting the scripts for some of those episodes over the back half, and all of us just going, ‘Oh my God.’ We didn’t even know where it was going.”

A mischievous Krueger then concluded by smiling, “I guarantee you will not see it coming.”
