“The Audience Has Been Speculating”: ‘Cobra Kai’ Creator Shares Exciting Spin-Off Update Ahead of ‘Karate Kid: Legends’

During an interview at Paleyfest (via The Direct), Hurwitz revealed he has plenty of ideas for future stories, but making them would depend on what Netflix and Sony want. He stated that he had an idea for a show that would take place 100 years ago and events that would take place in the future after Cobra Kai. While none of these projects have gotten the green light to be made, he hopes a future update will be shared soon.
“I mean, we have a buffet in front of us in terms of what we’d like to do, and it just has to line up with what our partners at Sony and Netflix want to do. There are contemporary spin-offs that take place after the events of Cobra Kai. There are other spin-offs that, you know, we know the audience has been speculating about that took place 100 years ago. We’ll have to see, you know, and everything in between. We’ll have to see which one is the right time and the right project. But hopefully, there’s more to share soon.”
As the Karate Kid franchise expands, it will be interesting to see what happens next to these beloved characters or learn more about their backstory. The story of Cobra Kai not only focuses on the present, where an adult Johnny Lawrence (Willaim Zabka) and Daniel LaRusso ( are, but it also shares some untold stories of the characters’ past, particularly towards Mr Miyagi. It also featured flashbacks of some of the show’s characters, like Kreese.
What’s Next For The Karate Kid?
Following Cobra Kai is Karate Kid: Legends, which takes place three years after the events of the Netflix series. The film features the return of Mr. Han (Chan) as he seeks the help of Daniel (Macchio) to help train Li Fon (Ben Wang
), a former kung-fu student who plans to enter a karate competition. With the help of these two mentors, he will learn to merge two styles into one for the ultimate martial arts showdown.Chan first made his Karate Kid appearance in the 2010 film The Karate Kid, a martial arts drama set in China, which also stars Jaden Smith. It was initially meant to be a remake of the classic 1984 feature. But thanks to the announcement of Karate Kid: Legends, it ended up being placed in the same fictional martial arts universe.
