The Handmaid’s Tale Season 6 Gets Major Filming Update From Elisabeth Moss
Following a series of delays, star Elisabeth Moss now provides an update regarding when The Handmaid’s Tale season 6 will start filming.
The Handmaid’s Tale season 6 finally gets a filming update from star Elisabeth Moss. Based on the 1985 novel from Margaret Atwood, the hit dystopian drama first premiered on Hulu in 2017, following Moss’ June Osborne. The Handmaid’s Tale season 5 finale brought the show’s latest batch of episodes to an end in November 2022, and the confirmed season 6, which will be the show’s last, encountered production delays last summer due to the dual WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes.
During a recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Moss reveals that The Handmaid’s Tale season 6 is scheduled to start filming this summer.
While the star doesn’t provide any story teases of what’s to come, she does also share when the new season is most likely to release on Hulu. Check out Moss’ brief update below:
“We are going back to shoot this summer. Our final season… It probably won’t be [released] until maybe 2025.”
What To Expect From The Handmaid’s Tale Season 6
In terms of story information, the upcoming season will seemingly pick things up where the Handmaid’s Tale season 5 finale left off. One crucial event that is sure to be further explored is the reunion between June and Serena aboard an outbound train from Toronto. Despite their differences, it seems the two women could end up working together as Gilead’s base of support grows in Canada. Luke’s arrest, too, will likely inform how season 6’s story unfolds.
As far as a potential release date, Moss’ latest filming update means that The Handmaid’s Tale season 6 will almost certainly not be releasing on Hulu this year. As Moss says, a 2025 release date seems most likely at this point, and April has previously served as the release month for seasons 1, 2, and 4, meaning season 6 could follow this same trend. Many questions remain about The Handmaid’s Tale season 6, but more information and promotional material is is sure to arrive after filming gets underway.
