The Handmaid’s Tale Season 6: Will fan theories be adapted in the finale season?

As anticipation builds for the final season of The Handmaid’s Tale, lead actress Elisabeth Moss has offered insights into what fans can expect from the highly anticipated conclusion. Moss, who portrays the resilient protagonist June Osborne in the drama, revealed that Season 6 is designed as a tribute to the show’s dedicated fanbase.

A Finale for the Fans

In an interview with Business Insider (via Yahoo!), Moss emphasized that the upcoming season is crafted with the series’ loyal viewers in mind. She expressed, “I think this whole season is absolutely for the fans. It’s definitely for our audience. It’s definitely for the people that have stuck with us for five seasons, and we’re kind of making this one for them.”

A Secretive Finale

While Moss hinted at the fan-centric approach of Season 6, she remained tight-lipped about specific plot details. Having known the series’ conclusion for some time, Moss admitted feeling hesitant to disclose any spoilers, stating, “I’ve known for a while how it was going to end, so I don’t think I can say anything. I’m too scared to say the wrong thing accidentally. I’m too nervous”, as quoted in a report by Movieweb.

Moss’s Directorial Role

In addition to her starring role, Moss will extend her creative talents behind the camera, directing four pivotal episodes, including the season opener and the series finale. Describing the final season as “pretty wild,” Moss teased its dynamic and unpredictable nature, remarking, “It’s big and wild, and goes to many different places, and it is very, very surprising all the way through:, as per a report by Movieweb.

A Bittersweet Wait

While fans eagerly await the conclusion of The Handmaid’s Tale, Moss empathized with their anticipation and acknowledged the frustration surrounding the wait for the final season. She revealed, “We are going back to shoot this summer. Our final season. People are really starting to get upset. Especially when I tell them that we haven’t even started shooting yet”, as quoted in Movieweb’s report.

Expanding the Universe

As the original series draws to a close, the universe of The Handmaid’s Tale is set to expand with a spinoff titled The Testaments. Based on Margaret Atwood’s 2019 novel, the spinoff is helmed by Bruce Miller, the showrunner for the first five seasons. Miller emphasized the independence of the two series, envisioning The Testaments as a complementary continuation rather than a direct sequel.
