The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Teases Its Season 3 Amid Disappointing Update

The official Rings of Power X and Instagram accounts both posted a 26-second video titled: “The Sword of the Faithful.” The clip, posted to social media on Sept. 10, has more than 21,000 likes on Instagram and more than 409,000 views on X.
In the short teaser, fans get an out-of-focus first glimpse of Elendil (Lloyd Owen) as he brandishes the “Sword of the Faithful.” Lord of the Rings fans will see that the sword is seemingly Narsil, the famous weapon that cut the One Ring from Sauron’s hand. Narsil was wielded by King Elendil during the War of the Last Alliance and later by Elendil’s son, Isildur, to cut the ring off of Sauron’s hand. Fans may also recall that Isildur is an ancestor of the heroic Aragorn.

The video clip ends with the words: “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 3 Sneak Peeks,” alluding to the possibility that more of these types of sneak peeks may be coming in the future.
Fans commenting on The Rings of Power’s Instagram post had mainly good things to say. “YES, Amazon! This! Just a snippet, but exactly right! Goosebumps, a good snippet to choose, and giving some love to the show!” wrote Instagram user breecrossroads. Another account, woods_of_lothlorien wrote, “‘Sauron will not have forgotten the sword of Elendil. The blade that was broken and shall return to Minas Tirith!’”
Aramayo, who is starring in the new film, I Swear, in which he portrays a man with Tourette’s Syndrome, said that filming on The Rings of Power Season 3 is set to keep him busy until the end of 2025. He then laughed, saying, “And then I’ll try and get a job fast.”
When Could Fans See New Episodes of The Rings of Power?
Production on the first season of The Rings of Power began in 2020, but was quickly paused because of the COVID-19 pandemic. While filming on Season 1 started up again that September, it did not wrap until August 2021. Season 2 then began filming in the U.K. in October 2022 and concluded in June 2023.
Before Aramayo’s confirmation that Season 3 is filming, the last update regarding The Rings of Power came back in June 2025. At that time, three new cast members were announced for Season 3. The new faces include: Andrew Richardson (Extrapolations), Zubin Varla (Andor), and Adam Young (The Witcher: Blood Origins). Richardson is set to be a new series regular with Varla and Young in recurring roles. Details on the exact characters they will be playing have not been released.
One thing that is known about The Rings of Power Season 3 is that there will be a significant time jump. The official logline for the upcoming season reads: “Jumping forward several years from the events of Season 2, Season 3 takes place at the height of the War of the Elves and Sauron, as the Dark Lord seeks to craft the One Ring that will give him the edge he needs to win the war and conquer all Middle-earth at last.”
