The Major ‘Rookie’ Update Fans Have Been Waiting For

Fans of the ABC police procedural The Rookie will be happy to hear that the show’s 8th season is currently in production.
TV Insider reported that the Rookie cast started shooting season 8 in July 2025. According to the publication, the Season 8 premiere will air sometime in 2026.
Nathan Fillion, who plays police officer John Nolan in The Rookie, spoke about shooting Season 8 during the July 7 episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live. He shared that he and his castmates filmed the Season 8 premiere in Prague.
“We went off to Prague to shoot a portion of the premiere episode of season 8. It felt like I was shooting Casino Royale. I’m in a suit,” said Fillion during the interview.
He also said he enjoyed exploring the history of the Czech Republic capital while filming The Rookie episode.
“You’re walking down these incredible streets. I love the history. These building were built in the 1800s, but behind it is the old buildings,” said the actor.

“We try to make sure that we’re not actually mistaken for a police officer,” said Fillion.
Fillion gave a glowing review to his The Rookie co-stars, which includes Alyssa Diaz, Richard T. Jones, and Melissa O’Neil, during a July 2022 interview on the Inside of You podcast. According to Fillion, the show’s cast “bring[s] their A-game every day.”
“We’ve got these pros. These people who come to work and know exactly what they’re doing,” said the 54-year-old.
