‘The Rookie’ Star Nathan Fillion Drops Unexpected Podcast News on Instagram
The actor reunited his former Firefly co-star Alan Tudyk, and they may be working on a new podcast.
Okay, Firefly fans. Nathan Fillion seems to be up to something, and it looks like it may involve none other than his former co-star Alan Tudyk.
When the sci-fi drama first aired on television back in September 2002, viewers watched The Rookie star portray Malcolm “Mal” Reynolds and Alan play Hoban “Wash” Washburne, two occupants living on the spaceship Serenity in the year 2517. The show explored a group of individuals trying to cope with the aftermath of a galactic civil war and how they’re trying to survive with unorthodox money-making tactics. While Firefly was quickly cancelled that December, the series developed a legion of fans that continue to wonder about if there was more to the story than what was shown on TV and in the 2005 sequel film Serenity.
While it’s unclear if Firefly will be back on screen for fans to watch, Nathan did tip his followers off to something he may be working on with Alan. As he posted an Instagram photo of the two seemingly on Zoom, he put out a request asking fans a specific question about a potential reunion.
“If Alan Tudyk and I were to do a podcast together, what do you think we should call it?” he inquired from his followers in the caption.

Upon seeing Nathan teasing he potentially has something Firefly-related in the works, folks couldn’t hold back their elation about the possibility.
“OMG this would be the best podcast EVER!” one person wrote in the comments. “I have no idea, because if that were to happen I might just die of happiness 😭 my two favorite actors, a podcast? Together? 😭🙌🏼,” another exclaimed. “We don’t care what you name it as long as you DO THE PODCAST! 🛸👽🛸 🔎🕵️♀️🔍,” a different follower added.
So, what could Nathan and Alan possibly be working on? Given how we’re currently in an age where rewatch podcasts are all the rage (like the Suits ‘Sidebar’ podcast and the This Is Us ‘That Was Us’ podcast), the two could be working on a show where they go back and reminisce about their time working on Firefly. After all, Nathan expressed how he’d be thrilled to reprise the role of Mal over two decades after the show aired.
“Why wouldn’t I do that? It was one of the best things that ever happened to me,” he said in a June 2022 podcast episode of Inside of You With Michael Rosenbaum.
Well, it looks like we’ll need to be on the lookout for more news on this!
