The Sopranos Biggest Mistake Was Wasting This Brilliant Character
Another powerful female character was in so much need.
There are many shows that are considered the cult classics of modern television. One of them is The Sopranos. The gripping drama focuses on an Italian mafia family with its leader, Tony Soprano, having some sort of mental issues that are forcing him to attend a psychologist.
The series focuses on many crimes of the mobsters and their attitude toward what they do for a living. It’s actually fascinating that together with them, you almost find yourself rooting for the gang members most of the time. At least you decide to turn a blind eye on many questionable things Tony does.
There are a lot of side characters in the show that help us better understand the personalities of the main characters. But not all of these supportive cast members are as memorable and important for the show as Gloria Trillo.
Gloria Trillo was played by the amazing actress Annabella Sciorra. She joined the show in season 3 and was introduced as another patient of Dr. Jennifer Melfi. Later Tony found out that she worked at Globe Motors and went there to meet her. The two immediately hit it off and began a passionate affair.
Gloria, as she even said so herself, wasn’t his yet another goomah. Of all his mistresses, she was the most influential. Tony was swept away by her charm and exotic vibe she gave off. She seemed to be independent and not caring about anything, but passionate and powerful at the same time. And the fans also liked that about her.
“From the very first time I watched the show, I’ve always loved the Gloria Trillo scenes more than any other. They give me SO much anxiety now, especially after entering the dating world and encountering people just like her, but that’s what I love about them. Such a raw, real character,” Redditor Duncanconstruction said.
The fans also think that she gave off strong Livia vibes, which could be used in order to explore Tony;s mental issues and his traumatic past even deeper. However, the writers turned Gloria into an insane person instead, ending her arc with a ridiculous and rather brutal death.
