The Vampire Diaries Fans Were Wrong About The Show’s Main Heartthrob All Along
But not all his love interests were equally as good.
When you think of The Vampire Diaries characters, you probably think of Elena Gilbert and the Salvatore brothers.
But neither Damon nor Stefan have had as many love interests over the seasons as one particular man. Think older, wiser, and a little more human.
Yes, the main heartthrob of the series turned out to be none other than Alaric Saltzman.
This realization came to Reddit users in the process of counting the love interests of each of the characters.
As it turned out, only Caroline, who was involved in somewhat romantic storylines with Damon, Tyler, Klaus, Matt, Stefan, Alaric himself, Jesse & Liam could beat Alaric in this race.
Alaric’s body count is a little lower, but no other guy from the show could ever compete with him.
He started with Isobel Flemming, his wife, and Elena’s biological mother. After her tragic death, Alaric moved on to Jenna.
They started dating in season 1 of the show and broke up in season 2. Jenna was turned into a vampire and died in a sacrifice ritual.
After the incident, Alaric has mourned her for many years, suggesting that she was his true love.
However, that did not stop the writers from involving him with Meredith, marrying and having children with Jo, or admitting romantic feelings for Caroline a few seasons later.
The latter relationship has so upset the audience that some people have chosen to forget it ever happened.
Although Caroline and Alaric are similar in a number of their affairs, they were never meant to be together, not to mention the engagement.
Even though this story was over pretty quickly, it still managed to leave a bad taste in people’s mouths.
Alaric got a few more shots in Legacies, but none of his romantic interests lived up to the expectations of the original show.
Fans believe that there were no better matches for him than Jenna or Jo throughout the show.
If you want to relive all of Alaric’s past relationships, you can stream The Vampire Diaries on Netflix, Peacock TV, or MAX.
