‘The Vampire Diaries’ Star Ian Somerhalder Confirms He’s Retired From Acting, Admits He Doesn’t “Miss Any Of It”
The Vampire Diaries star Ian Somerhalder is stepping into a new phase of his life and career.
The actor recently made an appearance at a special screening of Common Ground, where he confirmed to E! News that he has retired from acting to focus on other business ventures.
“I loved what I did for a really long time,” Somerhalder said. “I don’t miss any of it. I love making films, and I just did it for so long. We had an amazing run.”
Somerhalder was joined by his wife, actress Nikki Reed, who is best known for playing Rosalie Hale in the Twilight series.
He continued, “I love making films. I just did it for so long. We had an amazing run. The community and the family that is a set… But this is our 2.0 version, about to be 3.0 version.”
Both Somerhalder and Reed’s last acting credit was in 2019, when they both appeared on the canceled Netflix series V Wars. They have since moved out to a farm outside of Los Angeles, where they live with their two children.
“Although I wish we had more time on the farm,” Reed said. “We’re running multiple businesses.”
Somerhalder explained why he decided to leave Hollywood in an interview last fall, saying, “I stepped away from acting a little over four years ago to raise my kids, build my companies and get these films launched.”
He has instead set his sights on promoting sustainability, working on his farm, and making films like Common Ground, on which he served as an executive producer. The documentary features a star-studded cast of narrators including Laura Dern, Woody Harrelson, and Donald Glover, explaining how the “regenerative agriculture” movement could possibly reverse climate change.
