“We’re Absolutely Delighted”: Neil Gaiman Praises Record-Breaking New Good Omens Adaptation
The upcoming graphic novel adaptation of Good Omens has the book’s author, Neil Gaiman, excited for the project. The Kickstarter campaign for the Good Omens graphic novel reached its funding goal within minutes, followed by making $3 million overall. To say that both fans and creators alike were shocked would be an understatement – but now that initial feeling has passed, and Gaiman describes himself as “amazed and impressed.”
Through Kickstarter, Gaiman offered an update on artist and writer Colleen Doran’s illustrated adaptation of Good Omens, continuing the expansion of the franchise across mediums. Initially a novel co-authored by Gaiman and the late Terry Pratchett, Good Omens has recently developed an even wider fandom, thanks to the television adaptation of the original book.
Doran’s graphic novel version of the story is highly anticipated by its legion of backers, but it has also been cause for celebration for Gaiman and the Pratchett estate.
Neil Gaiman & Terry Pratchett’s Estate Offer An Update On The “Good Omens” Graphic Novel
Both [Rob] Wilkins and [Neil} Gaiman sing nothing but high praise for Colleen Doran, and rightfully so. Good Omens is already a deeply personal tale for Doran…and now she’s tackling the project while going through a deeply personal recovery.
In regard to the Good Omens schedule update, the announcement reveals that despite the graphic novel’s artist, illustrator and colorist, Colleen Doran, dealing with health issues, she’s working hard to prep the novel. The Terry Pratchett Estate still wants to prioritize her well-being, and thus, the new projected schedule will see the launch of the Good Omens HQ store – featuring new merchandise – in fall 2024, with the publication of the graphic novel coming in spring 2025. In the meantime, Neil Gaiman had this to say:
I’ve been amazed and impressed by how much Colleen has done so far, despite dealing with health issues. We are proud of her and her dedication to adapting Good Omens with such care, and look forward to holding the finished books in our hands.
As Gaiman and Rob Wilkins explained, the finished product will be well worth readers’ patience.
Wilkins followed up on Gaiman’s words with this statement:
Colleen is doing a fantastic job bringing the graphic novel to life. We’re absolutely delighted with each and every page and it is essential she can work comfortably whilst giving the book the time it deserves. She has our full support and we can’t wait for you to see the results.
Both Wilkins and Gaiman sing nothing but high praise for Colleen Doran, and rightfully so. Good Omens is already a deeply personal tale for Doran, in connection to her family, and now she’s tackling the project while going through a deeply personal recovery from cancer. The fact that she remains both dedicated and efficient in her efforts to complete the project is nothing less than commendable. Regardless of any schedule changes, readers should rest assured that the time is being put in to assure a quality release.
Few people are closer to Good Omens than Neil Gaiman, and if he gives his approval, readers should know that something special is coming soon.
Colleen Doran’s “Good Omens” Adaptation Will Be Released In Spring 2025
The running theme of the Good Omens graphic novel has been that those involved are working effortless to create something that’s unique from what the TV show offered more recently, or even what the original Good Omens book offered. Colleen Doran outright stopped watching the show so that she could offer something fresh. It appears that Gaiman recognizes that effort, as he seems just as excited as any other fan would and should be.
