“We’ve Filmed It a Couple of Different Ways”: ‘Outlander’s Caitríona Balfe Doesn’t Know How the Series Ends Even After Filming It [Exclusive]

“Wrapping Outlander was very emotional. Everybody came to set, which was just very weird because they gave Sam [Heughan] and I a seven-page scene that was just full of dialogue to finish on, and yet the whole studio was full of execs and all the cast and everybody. So, there were lots and lots and lots of tears. I’m just very proud of the show and I’m excited for the fans to see it. I just hope we’ve done right by them.”
When asked how she thought Outlander will end, Balfe confirmed that she couldn’t speculate even if she wanted to, due to the series shooting a few variations of the ending:
“I don’t even know the ending. We’ve sort of filmed it in a couple of different ways, and Matt is going to decide, which I think is great so I can’t lie. But I think they’re going to be satisfied. We brought a lot of people back. A lot of the story is explained. I hope they are anyway.”
What Do We Know About ‘The Amateur’?
Balfe is one of the many big names attached to star in The Amateur, the spy thriller following a CIA decoder (Rami Malek) who trains to become a killer after his wife is murdered and his superiors decide to do nothing about it. The film comes from writers Ken Nolan and Gary Spinelli, and it’s based on the novel by Robert Littell, with James Hawes directing. Starring alongside Malek and Balfe in The Recruit are Laurence Fishburne (The Matrix), Rachel Brosnahan (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel), Jon Bernthal (The Punisher), and Holt McCallany (The Iron Claw).
The final season of Outlander still lacks an official release date, but The Amateur hits theaters this Friday. Stay tuned to Collider for more updates and find tickets below for a showing of The Amateur near you.
