Why June Ended Up With Nick Instead Of Luke In The Handmaid’s Tale S4?
Even in a story like that, there’s room for pure love.
The Handmaid’s Tale is certainly one of the most disturbing shows out there for many reasons. The dark dystopian series features characters who are in pain on so many levels that it’s hard to imagine how it’s possible to stay sane after suffering for so long.
That’s why many of the show’s characters actually faced a lot of mental health issues and even wanted to end their lives. One of them was of course the main character of the show, June Osbourne.
June was unfortunate enough to be fertile, so she was taken by the Gilead government and made a handmaid, a.k.a. a sex slave, in a horrible totalitarian society. She was forced to leave her husband and daughter behind. But even there, in that dark and terrifying world, she managed to find something that kept her going.
Yes, we are talking about Nick. The one person in Gilead who was able to make her believe in a bright future and keep her alive. They fall in love under terrible circumstances, but still find peace with each other.
Although their couple became a fan favorite, many viewers still understood that their love was still an unhealthy one, as they both found themselves while not in a stable mind. And with Luke, the husband, being in the story again, the biggest question of season 4 was will June reconnect with him?
Unfortunately for fans of the Luke/June pairing, it became obvious that the two just don’t work together anymore. Luke has become a complete stranger to June, and it’s not hard to understand why. His wife is not the person she was before, and no matter how hard he tries, he will never get what she went through in Gilead.
June had no choice but to leave Luke and seek revenge. So after escaping, she went back to Gilead to kill Fred. And guess who helped her. Nick became a big part of this storyline, proving once again that he is the only one who understands her and is there for her no matter what.
