Will Shauna Become a Dictator in ‘Yellowjackets’ Season 4? Sophie Nélisse Hints at Where Things Are Headed [Exclusive]

Ever since it was announced that Yellowjackets was renewed for a fourth season, fans have been on the lookout for hints about where the story is headed in the upcoming season. Luckily for fans, Collider’s Perri Nemiroff spoke with series star Sophie Nélisse at SDCC — and she was eager to theorize about the future of her character Shauna.

Nélisse stopped by the studio while promoting her new movie Whistle. During the interview, the actor confessed that even though the cast was confident that Yellowjackets would return for Season 4, they also knew that anything could happen in the lead up to the official confirmation. Nélisse addressed the shocking Season 3 finale while commenting about how the cast felt about the renewal, saying:

“The way Season 3 finishes, we were all like, ‘Truly, this cannot be the end. There is no way this is not getting a renewal.’ The fans have been so engaged, and I feel like people are loving it more and more every season. I felt pretty confident that we would get Season 4. So, I feel like we all saw it coming, but we were just really thrilled when we finally got the approval.”

Of course, the cast and fans had nothing to worry about. Season 3 of Yellowjackets broke every record that the series had previously established, and the season finale (titled “Full Circle”) became the series’ most-watched episode ever on Paramount+, with 3 million viewers. Now that we know the series is coming back, though, it’s time to address Shauna’s behavior during the previous season and its consequences in Season 4. For now, Nélisse is only able to speculate, but she did delve into the possibilities of what could happen to Shauna after she actively tried to sabotage the young girls’ return to civilization and how she might feel after discovering that the entire camp was plotting against her leadership. Nélisse noted:

“I’m very curious. I haven’t seen any of the scripts. I kind of have a feeling that it will go either way. Either she becomes even more isolated and meaner, if that’s even possible, and just finds this leadership on her own, where she just terrorizes everyone, and it becomes some sort of dictatorship. Or I feel like this will be where she hit a wall, and she’ll need to take a step back and fall under everyone else’s control.”
