Yellowstone showrunner Taylor Sheridan ‘still writing’ season 5 as filming delayed
The second half of Yellowstone’s fifth season could still be a long way off.
Millions of fans have been eagerly awaiting the final episodes of Yellowstone season five, and there may still be a long wait to come.
Despite claims from Rip Wheeler star Cole Hauser the series could start filming again in May, showrunner Taylor Sheridan is reportedly still writing the scripts.
After taking on several new projects for Paramount over the last couple of years, including Tulsa King and numerous Yellowstone spin-offs, he could be about to bring his flagship Western saga to a close.
Producer Stephen Kay said: “Taylor is in Texas spinning hay into gold and we’re hoping we’ll do it soon. Everybody’s excited.”
In season five so far, John Dutton (played by Kevin Costner) has taken on a demanding new role as Montana’s state governor.
However, rumours have been circulating of Costner bowing out from the series after five seasons, with some sources even suggesting John could be killed off.
An insider recently told Showbiz411.com: “I’m told when the second part of season five of Yellowstone resumes sometime this fall, Dutton will be killed off and the repercussions will be played out in the remaining episodes.
“The whole team is down in Texas now meeting, and trying to figure out how to do it. I’m sure Taylor Sheridan has it worked out more or less.
“We all knew Kevin would leave eventually.”
There are just six episodes of the current season to go so, hopefully, it won’t be long before part two premieres and Yellowstone fans finally know whether or not this will be the final instalment.
Amid the ongoing rumours, Costner’s lawyer Marty Singer has refuted claims the Hollywood A-lister is looking for a way out after a feud with Sheridan.
“The idea that Kevin was only willing to work one week on the second half of season five of Yellowstone is an absolute lie,” he said in a statement.
“It’s ridiculous – and anyone suggesting it shouldn’t be believed for one second.”
Meanwhile, Paramount execs have yet to officially confirm the end of Yellowstone, nor have they confirmed Matthew McConaughey’s involvement in another rumoured spin-off.
“We have no news to report. Kevin Costner is a big part of Yellowstone and we hope that’s the case for a long time to come,” a spokesperson told Deadline.
“Thanks to the brilliant mind of Taylor Sheridan, we are always working on franchise expansions of this incredible world he has built.
“Matthew McConaughey is a phenomenal talent with whom we’d love to partner.”
