Yellowstone’s Kelly Reilly on why she won’t play ‘another Beth Dutton’ after series finale
John Dutton’s fiery and hot-headed daughter will be back for one final time in the second part of season five as Paramount’s Yellowstone draws to a close.
Ever since Yellowstone began on the Paramount Network back in 2018, it quickly became clear Beth Dutton (played by Kelly Reilly) wasn’t a character to be messed with.
Fiercely loyal to her father John Dutton (Kevin Costner) and secret lover-turned-husband Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser), Beth has pulled out whatever stops necessary to keep her family’s land safe from outside opposition.
But with the series edging towards its inevitably explosive conclusion, Beth has a new set of obstacles to overcome.
Armed with the knowledge her father John has been lying to her about the “train station” combined with her lifelong hatred towards adoptive brother Jamie (Wes Bentley), it’s safe to assume Beth’s head isn’t in its most tranquil state heading into the final episodes.
And the toll of playing such a fierce yet emotionally vulnerable has clearly had its impact on actor Reilly.
So much so, the British actress has admitted she’d like to leave the role and those similar behind her when she moves on to pastures new.
“Obviously I play Beth Dutton and people like it,” she previously said of the role.
She continued: “So I’m inundated with very feisty, strong, violent type women.
“But I don’t want to play that again,” Reilly told Looped back in 2021.
So what roles does Reilly want to take on? She admitted: “I never really know what that next (character or script) is until I read it.”
Reilly’s CV since Yellowstone does boast a wide range of high-profile and different roles worlds away from the world of Beth.
For instance, earlier this year, Reilly took on the role of Wendy in Amazon Prime Video’s French-speaking series Greek Salad.
On the big screen since landing the role of Beth, she’s appeared in Promises, The Cursed, Eli and 10×10.
